On the final day of Term 1 2016, Room 14 made crafts in honour of ANZAC day. All the students made a variety of craft ideas including poppies, New Zealand flags, poppy paintings, decorated ANZAC biscuits and made our own war medals. It was great to see the students taking great pride in their work and wearing their poppies and medals with respect.
Enjoy some photos of our great work.

Wacky Wednesday!
What a fantastic term of learning we have had in Room 14.
To celebrate we had a Wacky Wednesday filled with lots of Wacky fun!
Plastic Bottle Waterfall
Another day another amazing investigation. With surprisingly good weather for autumn the students have been wanting to find different ways to investigate the outdoor space. Today we decided to create a waterfall using donated plastic bottles.
We started off by looking at examples on the internet and quite a few students decided they would like to team up to create one for our outdoor space. The students drew up a plan of what we would need and how to get the water from the top of the fence to the bottom in the most creative way. There was great language being used to describe what it should look like like zigzag pattern, tilted.
The students cut holes into the bottles and then we went into the outdoor space to begin placing the bottles. The students chose where to put them and what angle was needed and i helped to tie them to the fence. We tested each bottle was in the correct position by pouring water through them before we added the next. Here are some photos of our waterfall.

Obstacle Course
During investigation time a few students from Room 14 decided to make an outdoor obstacle course. They started by planning what they would need to make the course. They roamed the class and the outdoor space to gather all the materials they needed and then set about making the course from the starting point to the finishing point. There was great teamwork shown by all the students and lots of problem solving to create the finished course. The students decided that they had to get from the start to finish without touching the ground. Here are a few pictures from the build and a video of Noah tackling the course.

Apple maths
This term we have been learning about statistics in maths.
This is when we sort data and find out interesting results.
Today we wanted to find our which was the favourite kind of apple in our class.
We tasted red, green and yellow apples and then sorted our data to find out which one was the favourite.
We all had a graph to record our data on.
Can you see which was Room 14's favourite apple?
We also read the story called '10 apples up on top' and imagined what it would be like to balance 10 apples on our heads.
We then had to write numbers to 10 on our apples and order them on a picture of ourselves.
Here are some of our 10 apples up on top creations. You can see the rest hanging in our classroom.
We have so much fun with maths in Room 14 and we are all counting SUPER STARS!
