The Little Kowhai Tree

Today the Rainbow were very lucky to have a show from the amazing Little Barking Dog Theatre Company.

The Show was:

The Little Kowhai Tree

Little Kowhai Tree is a magical story of how things grow. Seeds are planted, green shoots begin to appear and Little Kowhai Tree begins her journey of growing up.

Children in the audience meet Little Kowhai’s friends. Friends who help her grow such as Sun, Moon and Rain. Worm, who looks after the soil around Little Kowhai’s roots. Bee and Tui who work hard looking after Little Kowhai’s blossom, and Ruru, the Morepork, who guards Little Kowhai during the night.
The story is told and sung in both English and Te Reo Māori. Worm and Tui take the children on a wonderful journey to discover the colours, textures, sounds and creatures of Little Kowhai’s growing.
Full of music, sounds, song and action, Little Kowhai is a wonderful introduction to theatre for young children, performed in the intimacy of your centre, classroom or school hall. Little Kowhai is not only entertaining, it is also a great learning experience for young audiences.

Term 3 Squash

The Tawa Squash Club provided great coaching sessions for 4 weeks this term. Room 14 learnt the basic skills needed to play squash. The first week the students learnt the importance of moving quickly in a small space whilst being aware of other people around them. For the next two sessions the students looked at their Hand eye co-ordination using rackets with balloons. In the Fourth session the students were introduced to partner play, the students learnt to hit the balloon to each other over different distances. All students showed great improvement of hand eye co-ordination over the 4 weeks and showed great enthusiasm for the basic skills involved in squash.

Calendar Art

Here is a preview of Room 14's calendar art for this year.

The children have been working hard doing sharpie and water colour pictures of pohutukawas (New Zealand's Christmas tree).  They all look very unique and would make great Christmas presents for families and friends.

If you want to order -   calendar order forms have been sent home and are due back this week.  We have spares if yours has been misplaced.

The art work is sent away and turned into high quality calendars complete with dates for school terms etc in 2017.

Check out your child's picture and and get your order in.
